“WHAT DEFINES FRIENDSHIP?”

Last night was a good example of the true definition of friendship. I attended a party where I was effortlessly having a ball among true, loyal, friends.
Have you ever been annoyed when you hear someone introduce you to another person as their friend, yet you know full well that, that person does not even know your middle, or last name? BE FA REAL!”
When did friendship take on such a shallow definition? When did we start to confuse an acquaintance, with a true friend? Are we all just more interested in the quantity, than the quality, and depth of our relationships?
Once at a business class, they tried to convince us of the real relationship between a service provider, and a client. If you are a hair stylist hired to do hair and makeup for a bride, how often are you on the guest list? Think about it! The guest list, includes friends and family….not usually including, the service provider, aka…”The Help!”
Now you may think this idea sounds a bit controversial, ludicrous, or just plain wrong. All I want to do is offer another point of view. Who knows, perhaps I am dead wrong, and the people that we provide services for, do deeply care about us, and our families, like all the rest of our closest friends. Could it be that we have deluded ourselves though, and gotten it twisted?
When we have a good working relationship with another person, or we get along well, Or we even have a high regard for another persons gifts and talents,…Does this really describe true friendship? When I do a service for my best friend, and something is slightly off, will they still be in my life? Now how about the clients that we perform our services on? Will the rebuttal be the same? Will they loyally stick by me, no matter what?
What really Is a friend? Think about it! I really want to hear your thoughts. Signing off!

“Outside/In”

Do you think it is shallow, to consider that for many people, beauty must come from outside first?
When I was only 15 years old, I applied for beauty school. On the first day of class, my instructors required us to stand up, introduce ourselves, and share why we wanted to join the beauty industry.
It was clear to me even at that young age, why I had to be in this business. Helping people get rid of their split ends, is so tiny, in comparison to what can truly happen. When you make someone feel more beautiful on the outside, you affect them at an emotional level on the inside.
Recently, a woman sat in my chair who desperately needed a hair color correction, and an update on her haircut. During our time together, she shared that she had suffered the loss of her spouse. When I completed her makeover, she looked in the mirror, and shared that since moving to our community, she had not been motivated to find employment.
With a beaming smile she told me that with this modern looking style, she was invigorated. She said that now she felt like getting back into the world, and looking for work.
What a powerful statement! We do not even want to consider losing of a family member. The fact that a new hairstyle, could affect someone at that level, is mind boggling. Who would not want to be a part of an industry, that can help people In such a positive way?
Usually people perceive this industry in pretty shallow terms. Hopefully, this post will help more people inside, and outside of the industry, realize what it is that we really do. We really can be affective working on our outside, so that we are motivated to improve ourselves on the inside. Have you ever had a bad hair day? How motivated were you? Signing off!

“Which One Are You?”

We are all either one or the other. So which one are you? Are you more interested in the price of things, or are you more about value? In the service industry, it greatly helps the service provider, to know who, and what they are up against.
Please be so kind as to share the types of things that add value to your products, services, and, or experiences. Please also share the things that you only look at the price, and where nothing more is considered. I cannot wait to hear. SIGNING OFF!

“ANDREW”

How sad is it that last week, a young man came into my salon to deliver food, with the largest, sincere grin I have ever seen.
The first to remark was my general manager(aka sister)! She asked him why he was so happy. He literally looked like a a ray of light, and I was immediately intrigued.
He replied, “I am always happy! Of course being me, I could not leave it alone! I must add, ” may I ask why you are always happy?”
In all of his radiance, he simply and beautifully replied,…”Why would I not want to be happy?”
I told him how brilliant this response was, and then he proceeded to float out, on his merry way.
My question is, …why do we wonder if somebody is crazy, or strange in some way just because they are super happy? What does that really say about the rest of us? What has occurred in this world, that has made us all so cynical? What do you think? Should we all consider Andrew , perhaps? Signing off!

“Bathroom Stall Etiquette!”

The most intriguing conversation took place with my last hair client of today. She is a highly successful young women, who is cultured, well studied, and very diverse. She brought up a topic that I have never considered before. Is their such a thing as public restroom etiquette?
She literally asked me to bLog about it,( which I obviously agreed to). Clearly, I respect her enough to do it. She shared that in her opinion , their is an unwritten understanding that if someone is in a public bathroom stall, you automatically know to skip to the next stall, and perhaps even get as far away possible.
I love knowing what is appropriate. I instinctively would not choose to go to the next occupied public bathroom stall, if at all possible. Have any of you ever heard the common thinking on this topic?
At no time have I ever had a conversation with another person, who felt that rules were made regarding behavior in a public restroom . It is a new day. Tell me about your most awkward public restroom experience. What is getting misunderstood with our social graces? Please do share ……Signing Off!
